  1. Rapid vision loss MAY be a sign of pituitary/sellar lesions, which is generally Not a very good thing.

You need to see a neuro-ophthalmologist, and extremely soon. Get an urgent appointment with a regular ophthalmologist and have them refer you over- the neuro-ophthalmologist will probably order the MRI same-day.

  2. Your family doctor is NOT a specialist in eyes, your eye doctor is. Do what your EYE doctor says. He may want to rule out a tumor, hemmorhage, etc. Trust the specialist.

  3. Because you could have a BRAIN TUMOR... do you spend a lot of time talking on your cell phone?  It's being determined that people who spend hours and hours a day on their cell phones are prone to BRAIN TUMORS.

  4. Your eye doctor is probably concerned to eliminate the possibility of you having a tumor,  particularly one near the optic nerve or in the vision portion of the brain.  Since your doctor doesn't want to cooperate with the optictian, the doctor you need to see is an opthamologist.  An opthamologist is a medical doctor, and able to order an MRI by their own decision.  I would hope the optician explained matters to your regular doctor, and that alone should have justified the test.  It may be time to look for a new regular physician.
