Question:

Why would it be hard to push up my BCT date?

My Recruiter said I'd have no problem leaving when I wanted to. I quit my job (I'm married with 2 kids) to spend 2 or 3 weeks with family and getting slightly fit. When I enlisted (July 31) they gave me Oct. 28th as my ship out date. I've asked to bump up my ship date to ASAP (which I was again told would not be a problem). Now I wait, out of work, with no idea. Is there any real problems with getting out or is there something like BCT cycles? I heard they start a new BCT group every week or so. ARGH?

  1. Essentially your ship date depends on when the school for your MOS starts.  Yes, they start BCT pretty much every week. But what depends on when you can leave is the school you'll head off to after BCT. Each school for each job starts at a different time and doesn't normally start each week. Sometimes it's by month... it all differs.

  2. there are many factors that determine your ship out date, there many facts still need before i could give a defenitive answer...the factors are what post are you going to? is your basic and ait seperate? or are you going through (OSUT) One Station Unit Training? the frequency of the basic cycles...i take it your currently in (DEP) Delayed Entry Program..Honestly the recruiters don't really care they are there to get you to sign your name...the recruiting stations get rewards for having a high enlistment rate...exceeding goals etc..your best bet would to be getting in contact with MEPS they should be able to give you a direct answer...tell them you don't have a place to live they bump your date up...when you first get to the post you go through whats known as reception which are barracks you stay at until they are ready to start another cycle...i was there for 2 weeks a friend that went through the same basic with me got there early and was in reception for almost 2 months...during reception thats when you get issued your gear, uniforms, and get shots etc...so give them a call see what meps says....good luck! thank you for serving

  3. when you ship to Basic training is directly tied to when your slot in follow on training opens up.  they won't ship you until the can line up finishing basic training with the beginning of AIT..no more than a week in between.

you can only REQUEST to ship out sooner..and that will ONLY happen if someone else fails to ship on time.

  4. Its not the BMT cycle thats the problem.

It is your AIT school start date thats the problem.

Your scheduled to go to basic, so you graduate basic, within two weeks of your AIT start date.

So moving up your basic ship date, means having to find you a slot in AIT.

If the AIT slots are filled, they can not move your basic ship date up.

You might try telling them you will change the mos you choose.

Otherwise, it will be hard to change your basic ship date.

AIT's do not start new class's every week, some mos's only have 2 or 3 class's per year.
