Question:

Why would my TV video signal cut out?

I have a 20 inch polaroid LCD TV. I have had it for 5+ years and it works like a champ except for one thing. When i use the component input the video will occasionally cut out for anywhere from 1 second to 10 seconds. And it doesn't randomly happen either, it normally happens when there is something such as an explosion or a moment when the volume gets louder for one reason or another. For example, i will be playing a game on my ps3 and a mortar shell will go off near me and the video will cut out for oh say 5 seconds and ill have to pause the game and wait for the video to pop back on. Its strange though because this only occurs when i use the component connection. If i use coax, composite or s-video connections the video is flawless, no problems. And its not just the ps3, any component device has the same problem on this TV. And i have tried my devices on other TVs and none of this occurs. Also, all my devices go through a receiver so no sound is produced by the internal speakers on the TV. I have googled the problem but have found nothing on the subject, and the TV is out of warranty of course so i can't call the manu. without paying a fee to talk with someone on the phone. Thanks!

  1. I would guess there is a short, most likely inside the television, on the green cable of the component input.  That is the video sync connection and is necessary to get any type of picture.  It could also be just a problem in the tv's processor.
