Why would my college not want me to bring a cordless landline phone to the dorms?

They said we could bring phones with a cord but not without one. The dorms don't have wireless internet if that means anything

  1. Since there are so many phones in such a small area there would be alot of interference.  The dorm I used to live in also reccommended we bring a corded phone.  Besides, dorm rooms are tiny, and my phone cord could stretch across my room anyways.

  2. I would imagine because they said so.   There are toggle switches in some cordless phone models that let you change the channel/frequency of the phone... changing the channel would let you effectively be able to use other peoples phones .. you could either snoop on them or put long distance or 900 number charges on their bill.  I imagine the college has privacy concerns in mind when making this rule.
