I cant understand why my company has set their network up so it blocks us from accessing streaming radio.

  1. So all you slackers don't hog up the bandwidth.

  2. Yes. Streaming audio and video consumes a lot of bandwidth. If your compnay uses high end data apps (mostly web apps) across a large LAN or WAN then those apps will degrade significantly. You will also notice a slowness when trying to pull up web pages.

  3. they prob think all of ya wouldnt do work just sit back relaxin to tunes ..................... it shouldnt  at all

  4. 2 reasons: to make your work more miserable (or to have you more concentrated in your duties) and to save bandwidth, since online radio is streaming audio, it constantly uses a portion of the company bandwidth, and if several people are using it simultaneously the network performance will drop a lot.

  5. The top bandwith hogs where I work was youtube and similar sites, as well as internet radio until they blocked them.

It can effect the network speeds for the entire company.
