  1. there also might be a bit of a 'rebound effect'.

if a person feels virtuous (or richer) because of one energy saving measure, they might 'treat themselves' with something else. did you buy another gadget or start using an existing one more?

  2. Because the company has raised their rates.

  3. Every thing is going up and it is hitting hard on every ones door steps.

  4. There could be any number of reasons.

Lighting for most people is only a small fraction of your total energy consumption.

The items which will consume the most energy are those which produce the most heat, i.e., electric heaters, stoves, clothes dryers, etc...

My winter costs for electricity are always greater than in summer, mainly because I have to use the clothes dryer since I can not hang them out on a line to dry.

You didn't mention how much your increase was however, or whether you have checked that your electricity supplier has recently increased their rates.

I would be extremely surprised if you happen to be one of the fortunate few who hasn't been hit yet!

If you use electricity for heating your house, and have had a cold winter, this would more than likely be the cause for any major increase.

    Good Luck.

  5. It's definitely your rates.  When we switched our longer burning lights over, we saw a dramatic decrease...rates were stable at the time.

  6. In a normal household, your lights don't account for a huge potion of you're electric bill. It's one of the easiest appliances to "update" which is why CFL's have become so popular. AC, washing machines, stoves, heat, refrigeration, are all big electric consumers. Plus, your electric company may have increased its rates. The best way to save money on electricity is to make sacrifices, not pricey substitutions.
