Why would my ex wants to hangout then brought along girls?

so he apologized for the break up of 9mos. ago and want to be friends. we made plan to hang out on labor day weekend three weeks ago and at the last minute he asked if i'd mind him bringing his friends along, two girls that he splits the hotel bill with and all of us mostly went shopping.

i noticed he concerned about money a lot. guess he's broke but what's the deal? did he just wanted to see me, coz he could have the same kinda fun w. the girls alone if i wasn't there. he could have stayed at his grandma's or friends' place close by here if he had wanted to hangout w. me solo. What's his deal anyway?

he probs wanted you to feel more comfortable about becoming just a friend... by bringing other ppl it leaves no room for a hookup or something with you and thus he probs thought this would leave you less confused about the situation
