Why would my mom say that about me?

Question

I'm 13. I've been babysitting for two in a half years. Its my favorite thing to do. Its my hobby! I love it and I want to do it for a long time! But my mom..... She said I'm not ready becasue I'm to young. It broke my heart! She says I'll be ready when I'm 14. She says I'm amazing with kids and all but still. I am broken hearted. Babysitting is what I do. It's my thing. It's what I love!

well she has a point because maybe the baby is choking what will you do there is a fire(and you don't know where the baby is)

The only reason I can think of why she would tell you that is....

well....Kids are very precious I know but to take care of them you have to have alot of experiance. You may have some already but kids can be a handful you dont know what to expect next they like playing with everything they see and tasting everything they find, she doesnt want to hurt your feelings she just knows howbig of a responsibility it is to take care of a child she wants you to be ready whenever you do take care of a child!!

Tell her you would like to that a babysitters training course offered by the Red Cross. That will show her you are mature and responsible. Good luck.

Dont take it too personally. Ok I'll explain. 13 years old is a little young or babysitting. Think about it, your looking after another person, someones child who they love and care about very much.

But, then again look at the bright side you must be a really mature and responcible 13 year old too be babysitting already. So thats preety awesome. Your mom will come around sooon. She probally just loves you a whole lot and still sees you as her baby

Your mom could be thinking that you are still her little girl.  Just remember fourteen is not that far away.

Your mom has a different perspective, you should honor that.

You can go to her, talk to her respectfully about how what she said hurt you, and ask for an explanation why she said it, work it out with her

She might not see what you see in yourself just yet. You may see yourself as 100% ready butmaybe she sees differently. I mean, what happens if a kid gets seriously hurt? No offfense but most 13 year olds would just freeze up and couldn't handle the situation. I'm not saying your dumb or anything along those lines. But maybe she is just holding you back one more year so you can get more life experience. You'll see. Don't be mad at your mom. She's just looking out for you. =)

You've been doing it 2-1/2 yrs already then why is your mother just now deciding you are too young? That makes no sense (although she's right). How can you have been babysitting since you were 10-11 and NOW you're too young?

I personally think 14/freshmen in high school is a decent age to start babysitting. I sure wouldn't feel comfy with a kid younger than that watching young children...

You'll find plenty of other things to enjoy and love..and it won't be too long before it's likely you'll find babysitting a chore because it interferes with other things you'd rather do.
