Why would my sisters dr tell her that her diabetes caused her to have herpes?

Why would my sisters dr tell her that her diabetes caused her to have herpes?

Perhaps he mis-diagnosed and it was just a form of sores.

did he say caused her to have herpes...or caused her to have some kind of sores? diabetes can do some pretty nasty stuff to the body (i.e. the necrotic swollen blistering foot)

Have your sister call the doctor and get an explanation.

This does not sound right.

Diabetes does NOT cause herpes.  

Might the doctor have actually told her that being diabetic can leave you more vulnerable to infections (viral, bacterial, and fungal)?

That's impossible.  Diabetes can not cause herpes because herpes is a sexual transmitted disease.  If she has sores from herpes, diabetes will make it harder to heal and prevent infections, she might always have an open sore because the diabetes will prevent them from healing.
