  1. My coach/teacher has been telling me the same thing. This year in cross country though as soon as I started talking to him less ( i didn't have him in class,) I have been going great in XC. It wasn't like he was making me slow but I came to the conclusian that he was right and I was pulling myself back from my full potential. My first race I got a 28:08, I went and talked to him and he said that wasn't too bad and that he still thought I was allowing myself to be bad, because I didn't trust that I would even be able to run. The next meet I got a 26:13, it isn't amazing but I can only hope I will keep improving. It was a P.R. by a minute and seven seconds, and I have been running for awhile now.

My point is that you have to trust that you have the ability to be amazing and have the ability to push yourself and deal with what comes up during a race or before it. Even in sprinting you have to allow yourself to let loose from your beliefs of the outcome and give it your all. And he cares be because he wants you to feel good about yourself and your abilty, as well as wants you to be at your full potential.

  2. Prove him wrong. If he tells you you have no confidence, and you believe him, then you won't have any confidence. But if you use this person's belief that you can't do it as motivation, you will overcome your anxiety and make him proud of you instead of telling you you can't do it.

  3. If your a sprinter, confidence is almost the whole race. I had that same problem because I was a thrower and I started running. Don't care what other people think. Before you run, you have to visualize you winning the race. I went from 30's to 22's in about a year. confidence makes that much of a difference. Confidence in practice will help your confidence in track meets and spend time in the mirror too. Believe it or not, but it helps
