Why would my tomato plants not be growing tall ?

I have planted Early Girl and Glamor tomatoes. They are growing well, with lots of tomatoes... but they are not very tall. Only about 3 ft. What would be causing this behaviour ? I have properly spaced them... caged them... pinching off sucker branches when I see them... and they get lots of sun and water. I am in southern Ontario.

  1. Is the soil nourished and fertile and is it well dug? And is that particular plant meant to grow to a certain size?

if you are getting plenty of tomatoes then why worry about what size it is...

  2. early girl and glamor tomatoes are a determinate bush type tomato plant and only grow so tall..determinate plants grow all thier fruit and ripen at one time then they are done...they die..indeterminate produce and ripen a few at a time all through the season..
