  1. Because we have earned.  That is my opinion.  When you serve in the armed forces and put your life on the line for fellow citizens, you have earned the right to be treated as an equal.  You can agree or disagree with the U.S. foreign policy, but the people that volunteer to the armed forces are heroes, they have valor and do a service on our behalf that we must honor and respect.  Second, half the population of Puerto Rico lives outside Puerto Rico, why?  Because it is better to live in a society that has order that in the mess that is Puerto Rico.  We contribute to the greatness of this country and if Puerto Rico becomes a state, rest assured that the standard of living will increase significantly over time, I am not saying that the next day that Puerto Rico becomes a state everything will be wonderful, but being part of the the United States, having full representation on both houses of Congress and being able to actually vote for President of the United States is something that will help us tremendously.  Candidates for President will have to pay attention to Puerto Rico all the time.  Whomever that says that if Puerto Rico becomes a state it will lose its culture does not know what he or she is talking about.  I have lived in the United States since 1983 and I am still a Puertorrican, I have not forgotten my language, my culture, anything.  In summary, Puerto Rico deserves to improve its situation and have a say in the policies that affect the Island.  Bottom line, only full representation as a state will accomplish that fact.

  2. not all of us want statehood.

there are 3 different political parties in PR

    PNP-wants statehood

PIP- wants PR to be completely independent from the US

PPD- wants common wealth, the present status.

i really dont care what political status PR holds. i just wish some day PR would have the privilege to be govern by a government that is less selfish, corrupt and dishonest. in both political parties PNP and PPD, the government has fail to keep its promises. i pass all three. im better off appreciating my culture and the beauty of the island.

  3. I will tell you why, because they want to receive money with out doing anything. In other words there is the idea as soon as it becomes a state, all problems will wash away. Little do they know they will be taxed up the wahoo! I know, I am taking economics. I am of course and respectfully opposed to forging it as a state, hitherto the subject of culture, language, heritage, and among other principles. But then again, it will never become a state so you needn't worry.

  4. PR will NEVER become a state, because it would destroy the country if it did.
