  1. Vitamin D is produced in the body in the skin using sunlight. There are fewer hours of sunlight in the day the farther north (and south) of the equator you live. Vitamin D is important in the formation of bones. That's why it's recommended that people take vitamin D and calcium in the northern locations.

    For some reason, it's been shown that swimming, although good exercise, does not prevent osteoporosis.


  2. Those living in Northern climates do not have the same amount of sun exposure for adequate Vitamin D production. Calcium is required for proper Vitamin production by the body.

  3. Swimming is easier on the joints.

  4. vitamin D is taken in the north because theres not as much sunlight, which your skin uses to make vitamin D, but thank to genetic engineering and other sciences D is supplemented by western food products.
