Question:

Why would pro-lifers not want to provide our children with teen-pregnancy prevention programs?

WASHINGTON - Republican John McCain, whose running mate disclosed that her unmarried 17-year-old daughter is pregnant, has opposed proposals to spend federal money on teen-pregnancy prevention programs and voted to require poor teen mothers to stay in school or lose their benefits...

...Palin herself said she opposes funding sexual-education programs in Alaska.

"The explicit s*x-ed programs will not find my support," she wrote in a 2006 questionnaire distributed among gubernatorial candidates.

Doesn't it just make more sense to educate and prevent, than to do nothing and then use federal dollars to support the young mothers and their children?

I'm all for supporting the young families, but I'm more interested in preventing teen pregnancy in the first place.

So, federal dollars aside, is there a deeper reason for so many pro-lifers to be against preventative pregnancy education?

  1. Because Jesus hates birth control.

  2. These people believe that abstinence will work. They are correct, but they neglect to understand that humans were designed to want and to enjoy s*x. They believe that "protecting" children from sexual knowledge will save them from expressing themselves sexually.

  3. I would not want to fund any explicit s*x-ed programs either

I think we need to teach our children to be responsible and pay for consequences

  4. I think their reasoning is that providing knowledge about contraception will lead more teens to be promiscuous.  Even though all the data says otherwise.  Including statistics from industrialized nations where contraception is taught and readily available to teenagers.  I think we can all see just how well Alaska's abstinence only training works, can't we?  But praise be!  She is keeping the baby AND marrying the sperm donor.  Another promising 17 year old life cut down before it begins, if you ask me.

  5. I believe that it comes from the same mindset that doesn't want evolution taught in schools.  They believe that acquiring knowledge will cause one to lose one's religion.  This, of course, is true, which makes them even more fevered to prevent it.

  6. The key word is "FEDERAL MONEY" I.e. TAX MONEY. i.e. YOUR MONEY, MY MONEY, our money should NOT be used for this. A teen mother needs to raise her child, not the government

  7. I say we fund our schools to raise the kids totally, and we get 'em back when they're 18!

Only schools know how to teach kids what's what about life, why risk these poor kids learning anything from their silly parents anyway?  Who was the genius who designed such a flawed school system where they could learn things outside of school, and worse yet, values and ideals from their parents?  That's just nuts.

Parents have had it too easy for too long, I always say!

  8. Red Queen, Your questions are very insightful this morning.  I am pro-lifer.  However, I would not to see "Roe verses Wade" overturned.  This would drive desperate women back to illegal abortions.

In my opinion, federal money should be spent on teen-pregnancy prevention and s*x-ed programs programs.  The best method to avoid so many teen pregnancies is through education.  I would rather see my taxes spent on s*x education than supporting teen mothers.  These poor girls are burdened with babies before they have a chance to find themselves and experience life.

  9. I'm anti-abortion save for emergency cases, but I'm all for proper s*x ed. What the h**l are we preventing if we ONLY teach teens that the best lifestyle is abstinence when we KNOW that not all of them will abstain?

  10. I'm against s*x ed if it does not endorse abstinence and chastity.  You have to admit, in just about every s*x ed class, those are barely touched on. While the pill, condemns, etc are pushed.  I still remember my s*x ed class in jr high.  It was very embarrassing for me, due to my maiden name, which could be taken as sexual in nature.

Now everyone, get your minds outta the gutta.

  11.   I  would  say  that  mothers  do  tell  their  daughters  about

getting  pregant  and havind  s*x  early  and the problem,s  it causes

and  I  do not know  if   any  s*x ed.  would  even  matter,

there are s*x ed.  classes  in school,s  and still a lot of  girl,s

come  up  pregant,,you  can  lead a horse to  water, but

you  can not  make  him  drink.

  12. And here I was, thinking she was semi-cool. Boy, was THAT ever stupid on my part.

I think it's hypocritical to the extreme. Sure, abstinence is also great, but pair it with s*x education and it'll be even better. I don't get why people are against s*x education, honestly.

  13. You got me on that one.  I'm pretty pro-life.  I'm also very much in favor of birth control and education.

Maybe the Governor feels a bit differently now that she has seen the result.
