Why would silver ware melt in the microwave?

  1. Probably not.  Silverware is mostly stainless steel.  It has a high melting point.

    I did, however, melt a pot on my stove top.  It was one of those whistling tea kettles.  I put on water, for tea, and the phone rang, and i ran out of the house to handle the emergency.  Hours later, when i'd gotten back home, the water had boiled away, the the bottom of the pan melted in pools of slag.

    Now i use a microwave to heat water for tea.  I really wish that a stove with timers on each burner was available.  My stove's oven has a timer!
