Why would someone be so unwilling to share information if it would help advance someone?

My ex and I both have aspirations to have a successful fashion line. We each had this dream before we ever met... I was always sharing information that I knew about cuz it benfited both cuz we're both in that industry... But in our two relationship, the only thing he did that would help me advance was give me a print out of trademark information.... What would make him be like that?
