I want to be an ob/gyn but I can't find the real reason why. I adore babies, I want to learn more about the females reproductive system etc. I have been writing a paper on the topic for months but every time I turn it in they say it's a supporting detail paper and not a real reason. I just don't get why its not good enough!

  1. Well, OB/GYNs don't actually have all that much to do with the actual baby.  Maybe what the people who are reading your paper are thinking is "if she wants to work with babies, why not be a pediatrician?" and are wondering why you don't address that.

Being any kind of a doctor is about wanting to take care of people.  I never had the least urge to be an OB/GYN, but it seemed to me that the people who did loved working with women who were expecting, loved the idea of helping people create families, and loved the process of birth.  They are experts on the reproductive system too, but I suspect they want you to talk more about the motivation and less about the technical aspects.

Good luck to it!  We can use more good OB/GYNs!

  2. OB/GYN is first and foremost a doctor. Reason #1 for wanting to be a doctor should be wanting to help people.

Wanting to learn more is a good reason to study, but not to practice.
