Why would someone do favors for you but never talk to you?

There is this guy who does things for me all the time but he only says hi to me and that's about it. He's very nice and when he is with other people he talks and jokes but we could be alone in a room together and not a word passes between us.

He's just a kind, helpful person. I assume you've met this boy at school and he's in your classes right?

He's being helpful to you because that is his nature. There aren't many people out there like that; consider him a gift from heaven!

Also, maybe he wants to be friends with you but he's too nervous to talk to you, so he does favors for you hoping to collect your friendship? Either way it shows he's a kind, helpful, gentle person.
