Why would someone lie about talking bad behind your back?

I don't get it at all, what is the person scared of?

everybody at some point in their life do backbite,and talk a lot behind a friend back...no matter how much they say they don't...just always be very careful..trust no one but yourself with your personal stuff..the rest you could tell friends...but always watch your back....

The whole reason they talked about you *behind your back* is because they didn't want you to find out.

Now that you found out they probably just want to deny it happened.

Because its easier to lie than tell the truth in these situations.  The person is embarrassed that they got caught  However that does not make it okay.  Some find confrontation scary and choose to avoid it at all times.  This is something that a person with a weak character would do.

Backstabbers - that is what these people are called.  They act like your friend in front of your face, and then when you're not there, they talk nasty or gossip about you.  They are not real proud of doing it, so they won't ever admit it - even when the truth is right in their face!  Anyone with some gumption will admit what they said and explain why they said it...not many of those folks left though it seems...
