  1. ok... where u are living is known for earthquakes (or floods or whatever). are u going to leave ur home and friends u have known for so long and move someplace else?

most of the places in the world are prone to some natural disasters anyway, its not really possible for everyone in the world to not live in those places

  2. Maybe they were born there and have a farm there to look after. Otherwise, this is a good question.

  3. Why would someone live in an area know to have earthquakes, regular flooding, yearly wildfires, an active live volcano capable of erupting at any time, regular tornado threats, avalanches etc.  There aren't many people who live somewhere that is natural disaster proof.

Obviously, however, your question is directed at New Orleans.  New Orleans last set of major hurricanes, prior to Katrina, was Betsy/Camille in 1965 & 1969.  Katrina was problematic not because of the Hurricane itself but because of the levee failures.  If the new & improved levee system holds, Gustav will not cause anywhere close to that level of devestation.

Why do you live where you live?  I bet its the same reason people live in New Orleans, or anywhere else.  They have family, friends, work, and a life there.  Hurricanes aren't a yearly event in any one particular spot in the gulf or atlantic coast.  You take your chances, same as Californian's with earthquakes and midwesterners with tornados and floods because its the place you love to live.

  4. i agree with their answer above me, but also, some people cant afford to live anywhere else.

  5. Ok. Seriously? All coastal states are prown to have hurricanes. Even as far up as New York City. So basically you are saying that people should not live in New York City? Florida - the beach. People go to the beach. I am sure you are one that goes to the beach or have been. It is a risk they take, but that is a risk that they run. Another example: Memphis, Tennessee lands on a huge earthquake fault. The New Madrid fault. So, because there is this fault does that mean people should not live in that area? It does not matter where you are, natural disasters occur. A little common sense please?

  6. They can buy ocean front property for less! And when the hurricane hits they complain to the feds and ask for money from the taxpayers to pay for their losses! That's why!

  7. There is no place like home. It may be not a best place when hurricane cat 3 & above hit you but it doesn't happened all the time. Its not that easy to pack all of your things and just move to another place. There is no guarantee that your place you moving to is safer than the other one.

  8. I contemplate that on sunny January mornings when its' 74 degrees outside or when I snag a nice flounder.
