Why would someone shut my water main off?

Question

So I came home today, to find that there was no running water.

Turns out, someone shut off the main by the meter, I called the city and they said no one was scheduled to come out. And that my account is paid in full.

Can't figure this out.

Prankster? Angry Neighbor? Someone casing the house to burglarize it?

Any ideas?

some of this guys go to the wrong houses;

I happened  to be out at my daughter's place looking for her; when this guy was coming across the loan, so i said can i help you? he said i came to disconnect the water; i said did my daughter called you to have it disconnected; he said yes, i asked what was the name on his order slip and it was a totally a different name and address so with this he said; Oh I'm sorry this is a totally different name; he have it confused with sunrise and sunset; he was supposed to go to sunset ; good thing i was there to stop him. so a similar thing might be happening to you.

you should call back and ask to go back on the shot off orders to see if someone have made a mistake

i think it was a prank..... wish i would have thought of doing that a long time ago ....and why would a burglar turn off your water ??? come on now

Maybe someone spotted water leaking down the street, and turned it off.  Have you tried turning the water back on?  Turn the meter on, and watch it for a few minutes.  When you turn it on, the dial indicator needle will spin, as water fills the lines.  It should equalize the pressure, and stop turning.  If the needle keeps turning, then you have a leak, and a good neighbor who was trying to help keep down your cost of water.  Good luck!

lets not get nervous just yet maybe it was somebodies first day on the job, or distracted, and turn the wrong main off. when they saw it was the wrong main forgot to turn your back on. ask the neighbors if they had recent plumbing work done.
