  1. Other teams DID beat Detroit's offer. Edmonton reportedly offered $9 million a year for multiple years. Hossa signed for less than he needed to in order to play for the team that he thought gave him the best chance at the Cup. Vancouver didn't even make the playoffs last year. That knocked them out of the running for Hossa. He wants to win and did what he thought gave him the best chance.

  2. I have no idea. They probably thought that they had no shot at Hossa because they have no shot at the Cup (no offense). I still don't understand why they offer Sundin 20 million but that's just me. They may have tried to reach Hossa already.

  3. Hossa wants to win a cup next year so he can break the bank the year after regardless of how good the team is.  Obviously, Detroit has a better chance to repeat than the Canucks do to win it.

  4. I still just get stuck on the first half of the question.  Why would Canucks offer Sundin?

As a Canuck fan, I just hope he doesn't accept.

  5. Because Hossa WANTED to be a Red Wing... while Sundin isn't overally enthralled to go to Vancouver if he goes...

  6. It all comes back to him wanting to play for a contender in my opinion Vancouver is not a contender for the cup

  7. They want to give him an offer he can't refuse.  If they can afford it, why not???

  8. Well, Detroit beating Pittsburgh is an example of veteran experience beating youthful skill.

So, maybe Sundin over Hossa isn't all that bad a decision.

  9. They want a proven respected GREAT hockey player not some overpriced bum.
