Why would the electric starter of a 200cc Lifan motorcycle not work properly?

The kick start works just fine but when I try to use the electric starter it does not work right. Sometimes it sounds like it is not engaging all the way other times it sound like it doesn't have enough power. However after it idles for a while and I shut it off and use the electric start to restart it, the starter works. Any ideas would be helpful.

  1. Its got a bad relay. See if you can find a replacement.

After you start it and it warms up there is less drag (oil is warmer, so less viscous).

  2. Your battery is bad, is not being charged by the alternator, or won't hold a charge.

  3. as the other guys said, it could be the relay or battery leads, also check the ground to the starter motor. In your manual you can check to see how to test your starter motor with a multimeter. It should tell you what the resistance of the starter motor should be between the inside and the ground. Those cost a butload to replace so make sure that its the problem

  4. i have a 200cc chinese bike and had the same problem... i took the battery leads off the posts and scrubbed it all with a toothbrush (it had alot of build up on it) and put it back on tight.. hadn't had a problem since.
