Why would the price of a hostel double for sabbath/shabbat?

I'm not being hateful,I just wonder why the price would more than double.

Hi power_d,

For the same reasons the price more than doubles when traveling first class - supply and demand.  The wealthy get the cream.

Besides the fact that many hotels and hostels are more expensive on holidays and weekends, hostels are more expensive on the Sabbath for the following reason: Religious people do not work, they are more likely to stay indoors and use more conveniences and is therefore more costly to the hostel.

When I was in my mid 20s and looking into learning more about Judaism, I use to spend the Sabbath in a Chabad House.  Food was served all the time, and the hosts were very hospitable.  They would go out of their way to accommodate the guests.  I saw how much they invested in the education and comfort of the guests.  Everything was very well planned and the food was delicious.  I realized how expensive it is to entertain so many guests, and yet there was never a fee - I was only asked to make a donation.  I gave as much as I could though I had little money.

After having stayed in such a place, I can tell you that on the Sabbath it is very expensive to run a hostel

i'm not sure that you got your facts right. many hostels do not raise the price for the weekend at all. most hotels raise the price by about 30% over the weekend.

some places do require people to book the room for two nights over the weekend (usually thursday night and friday night), maybe that's why the price was doubled.

They are not supposed to work, so I guess if they put it too high is to avoid customers.

Their religion bans them from working. They have to employ international staff.
