Why would the yankees destroy yankee stadium when they move

i might be wrong but i herd from someone that they were gonna bulldoze yankee stadium when they move, is it true? and if they are thats ridiculous. i mean im a red sox fan but i mean that's just stupid

I can't believe it either but I'm sorry to say that it's true.  I heard that they are going to knock it down and put a couple softball fields on the land.  It's basically going to be the replacement of Macombs Dam Park which used to be on the site of which is now the new Yankee Stadium.  They are also going to plant trees around the park in the shape of the old Stadium.

Real Estate in the Bronx is very expensive, for the the Yankees to build a new stadium and meet current day standards they have to provide parking for the facility, the only place that is available to provide said parking is on the current site of "Old Yankee Stadium", so the building has to come down.

If the Red Sox were to build a new stadium right across the street from Fenway they would more than likely have to do the same thing.

EDIT:  Reviewing the plans for the site, very little parking will be included, it will mostly a park.  The City owns Yankee Stadium and is going to replace it with a park that will serve some use to the people of the City, by keeping the old Stadium up they would not be able to do anything but possible tours and constant up keep on a building that is falling apart.  They will also be able to raise a lot of revenue for the City by selling the seats, the dirt....everything.

Why is it stupid?  Having an unused, falling-apart ballpark sitting there would somehow be better?  IIRC, they're building a park and some youth baseball fields on the land.

There is no use for it and the new stadium will have the same design as the original.

So they can have parking. WHo cares. Move on and get with the times. Old stuff needs to get replaced and this is the only way to do it. This new stadium is gonna be wayu better than any stadium in the mlb anyways

Ever been there?  It may be historical but it's old, run down, and crappy.  They want a new and better place.

It wouldnt make any since to keep it up new stadium on the way they are going to need some parking so why not use the space that the stadium there not playaing in anymore for it.

why would you need two baseball stadiums right next to each other???  Its being torn down to make room for a park for the neighborhood..../
