My mechanic offered to help me buy a used car. He told me he would find a car at an auction paying wholesale prices. We agreed on the types of cars. He recommended Japanese which I agreed. Then he located at car from a friend who was selling his business, another mechanic. By the time I got to the shop I found out that the car was older and had more mileage than he indicated and the car was an American car. He has serviced my car for 3 years and has been really a good mechanic to date. When I got to his office he wanted me to sign the papers without test driving the car, but I told him no, I need to test drive the car. I drove the car and it was slipping (transmission) slightly and had felt like the car needed shocks or struts (was very hard on the bumps). I told him about the transmission; but didn't tell him about the other issues I was worried about.. He then offered a 6 month warranty on the engine and 1 year on the transmission. Said he would rebuild it. Told me he had rebuilt it before. I still didn't feel good about it.. being that everything he promised did not come to pass. He kept telling me to trust him.. and that he couldn't jeaordize his reputation because we attend the same church. But in reality Ithrough this experience I saw that he was very dishonest.. and did not follow through with what we originally agreed upon. I am confused because I trusted him before all this happened and now I want to but I just can't believe he would do all this. I can't believe he would try to sell me a car that had issues!! He has now lost most of my trust and I will now have to look for another mechanic. I don't know what happened.. He did mention that he is not doing to well in his business and he is in the process of maybe losing his house. I just can't believe all this happened and trying to make sense of all this.

  1. unfortunately I find more untrustworth people in business through the church.then the yellow pages. Dont feel guilty for how you feel.you have to love people in your church, but Christ worned us there would be wolfs among us. The scripture says not to judge, that means to not think your better than him. but it also says you youyou will know them, the wolfs by there fruit.. my advice is be a fruit inspector and pray he gets saved through this and other problems in his life.

  2. Generally, there are 3 places I try not to buy cars from. 1. Is someones front yard that ran a classified in the local trade paper. 2. A body shop. 3.A mechanic shop.

This guy is the reason for #3. He tried to stiff you no doubt. Best place to look for a good used car is Cars.com. A dealership can sell you a clunker sometimes too; like those so-called car lots that has a mobile home for an office and a gravel lot. The bigger ones that usually sell cars with around 35-50k miles is your best bet.

  3. Listen to Pedro.  You were used.  Good thing you are smart.

  4. If you've lost his trust, then so be it, he has misled you to try and make a gain for himself. Its good that you didn't buy the car and regret it.Tell him you don't like the car and ask if he'll still guide you in your purchase of a car YOU want, unless you dont trust him any more in which case seek out another mechanic.Good luck and God bless.

  5. he is just telling you his hardships, hoping you would buy his junk. just because he goes to church does,nt mean he won,t rip you if he gets the chance.don,t let him get to you, after all it,s your money, not his. please don,t buy it, it sounds like a piece of junk.

  6. He's being greedy & selfish. He wants your money to help him, not you. Sorry to hear about this, but business is business. I recommend you seek another car that is highly rated. Look to get a very low mileage Honda or equivalent. You may have to make a monthly payment, but at least the only money you will spend is on the cars monthly payment instead of repairs. In the end, a newer far more reliable car will be a better bargain. If you buy a 1 or 2 yr old Honda Accord now, it will last 10-12 yrs before it even has an issue worth addressing. My opinions.

  7. You did good put this loser behind you and ask around for another

referral. You can try IATN.NET and go to the find a shop portal.

In my experiance only the best belong there. Look for a sponsoring

    member and a AAA member.

  8. he needed the money.  also, it may not be legal for him to sell you a car the way he did.  he probably DID want to try to help you, but he had his interests first, and was using you to make money.

  9. there you go, he needs the cash and you are the one he thinks he can get it from and fast.

run like h**l and find another mechanic.

  10. he needed money...you had some,,,he got a crappy car for free..he wanted your money....
