Why would this make a difference on the plane?

I was flying home with Qantas last night.

The flight was over an hour late (technical problems) and as soon as we landed, we were told that we could turn on our mobile phones.

But as soon as the flight attendant was told by the captain that we would be getting off on the tarmac insted of an aerobridge, we were told to turn off our phones again! (which no one did)

so what would have been the reason we were told to turn off our phones again when we went to the tarmac??

  1. i have to be honest, and i do not have a clue, but it would be very interesting to know why...... =)

sorry i wasnt any help =(

  2. There is a lot of activity on the tarmac involving electronic equipment, communications etc. that might be interrupted if everyone is using a cell phone. This interference does not occur when you disembark directly into the airport.
