  1. Spin is the main answer to this question as rust is gritty so it makes the surface of a scoring club (wedges) be able to produce more spin. The secondary answer is to cut down on glare as most clubs that will rust are shiny chrome & if you're out on the course on a nice sunny day with a shiny chrome wedge in your hand  & the sun hits the face of the club just right....you'll see why rust is cool.

  2. it grabs the ball for a more accurate shot

  3. Increases the surface area of the face thus enabling you to impart more spin on the ball.  But if you think that you need to do that to win I can't wait to play you.

  4. it will give a advanced player with high clubhead speed more backspin .  todays golf balls do have enough spin so the benefit of a rusty wedge is pretty well finished . another disadvantege , due to softness of metal the grovees wear faster , . there may be 3% of golfers who could ever use these things . plus they cost more . with no gain . and they look ugly . but them cheap , take to gunsmith . have refinished gun blue play rest of your life with them . 10 per club . plus i bought one and it got stolen . bought another hit lot of shots off concreate to scuff sole plate let it rust throughly . it sure was ugly  . not worth the price , or the maintance , i have at least 80 wedges , some were gross looking metal polish , have groove cutter , saved a ton of money . and still have no idea why i bought them .

  5. The rust creates more friction between the ball and the face of the club therefore creating more spin after impact.  This is more desired on your wedges, when you are faced with delicate chip shots around the green.  One would probably not want rust on any clubs other than the wedges.

  6. rust actually puts more friction on the ball and creates more spin. cleveland makes an RTG 588 that is actually supposed to completely rust. it starts off as a bronze/ copper color and will rust to look like it was outside all winter. eventually too much rust does ruin the club but an ideal amount helps the playing. the 588 gun metal from cleveland is a good wedge that only rusts minimally on the face which is nice. i have one of those and then a TM rac and they are both great clubs. hope this helps.

  7. spin for my 61*!!!  I will tell you, nothing better than a good ole rusted titleist 61* rusted.......  B-52 style!

  8. To punish it for not getting the ball on the green

  9. more spin

only 4 the 48 degrees and up to 68

  10. I wouldn't.

  11. the usga limits the size and depth of grooves with impart spin on the golf ball but does not have any rules about rust so by rusting a wedge you can increase spin on a ball this is why you want to rust a club to increase the effective amount of spin the club can impart on the ball within the rules
