Question:

Why would you help other countries RATHER than your own community?

So many people focus on sending food, clothing, and medicine to other countries when they have a disaster. However, in your own community are people who are hungry, scared and in need of assistance. I want to hear why some people won't donate to their local food shelter but will send money to UNICEF to help other countries.

Why won't YOU help people in YOUR community?

  1. These people do it for show, they are dirt in the community.FAKE !  They are the people who go to church and don't know the meaning of the word "church".

  2. I am leaving to volunteer over seas in 4 days.  I chose to go out of the country because honestly, these people are much worse off.  I am not trying to diminish the things people go through here, but the kids where I'm going don't have ANYTHING.  Things like clean water are not even an option for some.  There are many opportunities in my community to get help.  There aren't opportunities like that over seas.

I have done a lot of volunteering in my own community, but we are all human beings.  We need to help EVERYONE not just the ones that live near us or that look like us.

  3. It's not that I refuse to help locally, but I need to be needed. I need to know that I'm making a difference. The people in this country (State, County, City) have so many programs to help. Government programs, church programs, food stamps etc. If I do not have food for my children, there are 3 food pantries within 10 miles of my house. Some countries do not have these resources and need help more. By sending money to, say, "Food for the Poor" I can make a difference in someone's life.
