I share my car with my dad and last week my tayota 2003 RAV 4 started having difficulty moving up a hill or after stopping at a stop sign or a red light... it feels like trying to make the car move when the emergency breaks are in place...

can anyone tell me whats wrong with my car? is it the gears?

  1. Could be transmission problems, check the fluid!

  2. Maybe it is the emergency brakes. Ask him if he used the parking brake. If they don't get used all the time they will hang up either from rust in the cables or the lever in the drum that the cables go to.

Try banging on the rear backing plates with a hammer and also grab the rubber brake cable housing near the backing plate and pull on them in all directions to try and free the cable inside.
