Whys everyone saying the worlds gonna end in year 2012?!?

Yes. It's on the round calendar of the Maya. This was predicting one end of their world. It seems to be true because recently economics predicted that oil extraction in Mexico will be exhausted in 2012.

Nothing to do with Nostradamus, who predicted the end of the world to happen in 1999.

Because the mayan calendar had a cycle that ENDS on 21 December 2012 and as they cycle ends then people has guessed that it means the end of the world rather than the start of a new cycle. for example the day has 24 hours but do we assume the world will end at midnight or will a new day begin again!

Its been promoted as end of the world as it sells the books on that subject.

i was totaly freaked out about it myself aswell, I asked the same question as you last week.

I heard everything from...

a comet hitting the earth,

pole switch causing massive tides earth quakes etc

aliens landing

earth being swallowed by a back hole

The sun sets the earth on fire (because it will be at its strongest that year)

gravity will dissapear and we will all fly off into space

The list is endless.

Anyway it is mainly because the Mayan calandar ends on that date 21/12/2012 and it is also said that  the planets are going to line up in a complete line causing mass destruction with gravity etc so all the theories of how the world will end on that date are now flying aroung the internet.

The mayan calandar is not predicting the end of the world, just the begining of a new calander.

I think its something like its the actual millennium (instead of the year 2000) as the years were calculated wrong when we changed from the old calender

Well why wouldn't they?  There's been an and-of-the-world prophecy every year for a few centuries now.

Some people seem to equate the end of the Mayan calendar with the end of the world.  It is not; it is just the end of the calendar.  Otherwise the world according to Hallmark would end Dec 31st every year.

hey not everyone is saying that! I was pretty clueless about that whole end of the world thing. Well...it didn't end in 2000 and my computer didn't crash either. The most I got was drunk. I think people just like scaring themselves into believing things.

Most of the prophecies aren't as dramatic as the world ending as in a cataclismic end of life.

But you might expect a very different change in the way that we exist upon this earth. Think about it, currently the west is the dominant power, natural resources are is running out, food is scarce in large parts of the world, population growth is rampant then theres Aids, Cancer, Famine, Crime..

We're entering dark days, and who knows how it might end or what might happen!.
