  1. Some areas may not have cable internet or DSL service but may have an ISP giving internet service by wireless antenna but it will still be run into your house to a modem where you hook up with a network cable or have a wireless router.

If you already have an internet connection by any means you can buy a wireless router to split your connection to a PC and a laptop on wireless or whatever you want.

You can also get internet service through cell phone companies with a PCMCIA add on card. You can get this service from ATT and Sprint. The difference between this and  internet at your home is that you can take your laptop anywhere that has reception from the service towers just like a cell phone.

  2. Yes.

Linksys is the most common and the one I'm using right now. I would recommend the Wireless-N router, which has the most wireless range.

Visit http://www.linksys.com/ or one of these websites where you can buy one:

  3. yes

  4. WiFi is very short range, so a third party supplier can't provide you with WiFi at home (although some apartment complexes will offer it).

You can buy a WiFi router and connect it to an (A)DSL or Cable modem (most (A)DSL modems have a WiFi router built in these days) to turn your regular Internet connection into one accessible via WiFi.
