Wi-Fi problems!?

Everything on my wireless network has been fine till recently. There are 2 computers on the network, and when only one is connected everything's fine, but when two try to connect at the same time both get disconnected from the internet. This has been happening since a new computer was brought to replace one of the old ones. Both computers are running windows vista. Any ideas on how to fix it?

  1. Maybe if ur primary computer is windows XP it could be a compatibiliy issue, sorry couldnt help much,

    Good Luck!!

  2. The IP conflict is a good possibility.

Easiest way to check this is to open a command prompt (Start/Run/cmd) and type "IP config" and hit return. If both your PCs have the same IPv4 address, they will conflict.

To remove any conflict, goto Control Panel/Network and Sharing Center (on each PC), 'Manage Network Connections', open the properties for your network connection, select Internet Protocol version 4, select Properties and make sure that it says 'Obtain an IP Address Automatically'. If you make changes, you're better off restarting the PC afterwards, so they take effect.

  3. Yeah as above, mostly IP conflict thing!

  4. You may have an IP Conflict issue, whereby both computers are trying to connect using the same IP. I had a similar issue before.  You may have to reset your wireless router, OR, disconnect your computers that are connecting to the network and re-install the network driver/adapter again. It should solve the issue.

Sorry, Im not technical on these things, so if this doesnt work, im not sure what else to say!

    Good Luck tho!

  5. Check there is not a fault/problem with your broadband service, Get your provider to  to check your line for faults. You could also try updating the older PC it may not have all the same files as the newer one.

Your router or  wireless adaptor may need updating, check that everything is connected properly.  Check that there is an ADSL filter is fitted to every telephone socket that you use. Telephone sockets which are used for faxes, sky etc need a filter to prevent interference with your broadband service. Try them one at a time to make sure they are working and if not replace it.

Assuming all ok, I would then remove hardware and software and start from scratch again. Moving both the computers together to make sure you get a good connection. Then move them back.

Lots of things can interfere with your connection, microwaves, printers! monitors and more, have you moved anything recently that may have caused the problem?
