Is a router really needed for networking with Wi-fi? I mean, if I want to connect only two gadgets having Wi-fi, say my HP laptop and Apple iPod Touch, then also I would need a router or simply I can connect both as we connect with Bluetooth. Please, HELP.

  1. Although there may be alternative ways to wifi, going through a wireless router is the easiest. I would say it this way:

You can get a wifi router for as little as $20-$40. You take it out of the box, plug it in, and you are ready to go. If you decide to go with Bluetooth, or try to experiment with something else, you will likely spend a lot of time on it, and the data bandwidth and reliability may not be good enough.

I suggest getting a router. The router way is cheap, flexible, easy. Here is a website that can help you with choosing the right wifi router:

  2. you really need in essence a wireless switch to connect the 2 devices

a wireless router set up normally would do that and more
