  1. ........in a word no...the amount or type of melanin you have in your skin does not affect your threshold for pain.

  2. worst place is side of the ribs and sensitive areas of the body....everybody has their own pain threshold....stings like a bee only thousands of them and it doesn't stop until it's done...and color has nothing to do with anything...light /dark it 's all the same pain wise

  3. No, the process is still the same.

Im half cast and it still hurt me like h**l.

  4. Getting a tattoo anywhere on your body will always hurt. But some parts on your body may hurt less. The bony parts of your body(ankle, arm, wrist,) will hurt more.

  5. i seriously doubt it. it's still skin

  6. i don't think skin color matters when it comes to pain People respond to it different The closer you are to a bone the more pain Fleshy parts of the body hurt less BTW ITS ILLEGAL in the U.S. to get a tattoo if you are under 18 I'm surprised the shop tattooed your friend

  7. it depends how dark. i got my first tattoo in college, i live in florida and i had majored in tanning that year with a minor in drinking. anyways it took like 3 times as kong to shade stuff in because i was so dark. so if itsjust an outline it wont matter but anything with a lot of color will hurt worse

  8. Of course a tattoo's going to hurt. Some people like to 'fess up to the pain, others want to put on the bravado and say it doesn't hurt at all.

Despite that, the colour of your skin wont make a difference to the pain. The only difference in skin colour is the way the tattoo will come out. Tattoos, especially colour tattoos, will show up better on lighter skin.

It depends where you have it, what it will feel like. The worst places are the inside of your joints eg. back of your knees, inside of your elbows. And your ribs, and the less fleshy areas of your back.

  9. I know that you are an innocent, and that your question is sincere, but it has it's base in some nasty prejudicial thinking. (I know that you are not to blame, I would just like to have this stated)

This is the same as saying that some people are better at basketball because of their color, or believing that some people have an extra muscle in their legs if they are a certain color, or that it's o.k. to ask one person to do physical labor but not another because of their color.... on and on... I am sure that you have all heard these things. And it is not just color, it can be gender, it can be age, it can be culture.

What it is, is complete disregard of the basic fact that we are all human beings, .. our bodies work the same and are made out of the same stuff. The only differences is in how we care for our bodies throughout our lives.

But everyone feels the needles. The degree to which you are bothered by them, has nothing to do with being a sensitive lilly white little female, but has everything to do with you, and your individual pain thresholds, the placement of the tattoo, who is wielding the needles and how, how complicated your artwork is, etc.

So, to everyone who secretly held this kind of thought, the answer is 'no' - skin color has nothing to do with pain threshold.

  10. Your skin color has nothing to do with the amount of pain you will feel. What causes pain is nerve endings in your skin when they're poked hundreds of times by the tattooer's needle. Some parts of your body have more nerve endings then others. If you want a pain preview, get a sewing needle and keep sticking it into your skin in the area where you're thinking of getting the tattoo.  What will be really painful, is if your tattoo gets infected.
