  1. Yes, before you do that, look here for a camera you might like  http://www.dpreview.com

Since you have a SD memory card, use it to test a number of cameras, like a Nikon, Panasonic, Pentax, Canon and Casio at their highest ISO and at all the zoom settings as well as in the macro mode.  Then take the SD card home and look at the results on your computer screen.... then you will know for yourself which camera is the best for you and your shooting style

  2. Well, according to what you selected, you probably got this camera at walmart or something. If that's the case I suggest you return your camera and exchange it for this one (same price, but way better quality pics). also make sure you get a fast SD card, something like a Lexar or Sandisk 60x speed or higher, 1GB or more. Here are the links.

The 4 first ones are camera suggestions. The fifth link is the SD memory card. Good Luck!

NOTE: if you want to avoid changing batteries, go with the one that includes a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. It lasts a long time , pictures will look better, and it will save you money in the long run. You'll only spend about eleven dollars more for this type of camera.

If I had to choose between all below, I would go for the Canon A470(cheap option), or Kodak v1003(smart option)
