yea, i'd go with a fender stratocaster...or a schecter...i have both i have a mexican strat and a schecter avenger hellraiser and i really like the hellraiser because it is loud (when not plugged into an amp) and it deals with distortion really well which punk and grunge thrive in...as for the blues, thats where the stratocaster would be better, overall fender would probablly be the best for what you want to do because it is well rounded, and will deal well with genres as different as punk and blues. =) hope this helps
