  1. I have personally never had a tortoise but I have heard the russian is a good, easy species.

  2. a russian would be best as they are a hardy tortoise and ideal for beginners here is a site where you will find all you need to know about russian tortoises http://russiantortoise.org/care_sheet.ht...  here is another Good site  http://www.tortoisetrust.org/  best of luck hope you find a tortoise

  3. yeah a Russian tortoise, or a box turtle are pretty easy, just make sure you have a big enough pen/ tank ( at least 50 gallons) and also keeping a tortoise outside is so much easier because they get 12 hour access to sunlight so it  is good for them, also you can buy a large outdoor pen or learn how to make one on the internet they will tell you. Also the temps should be at 65-85F never any less then 65F because then it would not be warm enough and the tortoise might go into hibernation. Feed her crickets, earthworms, snails, mustard greens, collards, turnip greens, romaine lettuce( aviod iceberg) and tomatos+ cucumbers occasionly. Also provide a cuttlebone, and dust her veggies w calcium and vitamins
