Wicked The Movie: Your Opinion?

So the Wicked Movie has just been announced. So what's your opinion on it. Good or Bad.

Musicals like "Hairspray" turned out ok on the big screen. But Musicals like "The phantom of the opera" were absolutely butchered.

So my question.

Will this be a hit or will they kill the phenomenon that is Wicked.

  1. The problem with musicals being made into movies is that often the director will want to cast Hollywood-attractive people, or big stars, rather than people who have the vocal ability to carry off the role. That's what happened in Phantom as a movie. Gerard Butler was a good actor, but he just didn't have the voice for the Phantom. This might happen to Wicked, and if it does, it'll be a shame. x

  2. im looking foward to the wicked movie and i will definatly watch it but i know it wont be as good as the stage version.

I think the main things that make Wicked the phenomina is its characters, its songs, its plot and its visuals. When Wtm comes out, it will have the same characters, songs and plot but the whole effect will be totally lost. When your sat in the theatre, your taken to a whole new fantasy world from the start with the map and the dragon.

Also, the turning point in Wicked which makes it as big as it is (for me anyway) was when Elphaba shouts "It's me!" and slowly rises into the air. What would make it achieveable in the movie is CGI which is no way as breath-taking as if she were to fly in really life (as she does in the stage version)

Basicly, Wicked the movie wont be as good as the stage version because in the stage version, the achieve the impossible in such an amazing atmostsphere that the movie could compare to.

  3. i think they will kill it

the magic in Wicked is the awesome props and machinery used in it, such as the "wizard", or having Elphaba fly at the end of Defying Gravity, and the show i saw had a huge dragon that lit up and flaped his wings everytime something bad was happening

when you put that stuff into a movie it looses its magic

and usually the people they hire for these "musicals" are awful i mean i HATED hairspray they used to many big names that didnt have any singing talent such as amanda Bynes and i really didnt like the girl who played Tracy

i  agree with you about how they ruined the Phantom of the opera, that movie was just plain aweful, i did like minnie driver though.

so i think it is a bad idea

  4. i would like to watch the withed movie

  5. The same people who made the musical are a major part of the movie. Winnie Holzman is the screenplay writer and she wrote the book of the musical (non-singing portions of the show). They'll probably do a pretty good job of it, and hopefully Defying Gravity won't be cheesy.

Also, Wicked has such a huge following that won't easily be detered by a less than perfect movie version. The musical will always be slightly better in my mind.
