Wicket-keeper needs to be more of a batsman – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jos-Buttler-c1733, England’s middle order batsman and wicket-keeper, stated that one needs to be a good batsman in order to claim a permanent stint with the Poms.
Currently, the national team is spoiled for choices in the wicket-keeping berth, with the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 and Jonny Bairstow all vying for the same position.
Kieswetter has the edge so far, who has ably kept the gloves over the past few series. This has seen Buttler and Bairstow; both changing their roles for the national team – playing as an out an out batsman.
Buttler recognized the fact and said, “That's the way the wicketkeeper role has developed - you have to be more of a batsman. You've got people coming to the fore with their batting, who can also keep wicket. Jonny's been playing these five games just as
a batsman. You've got the options, with everyone fighting for one spot potentially.
With a T20 still to be played, it is expected that all three English stars will be playing, hoping to end a turbulent tour on a high. The team has been humiliated by the Indians throughout the series, with the tourists yet to find their form, which propelled
them to the pinnacles of World Cricket.
The final nail in the coffin came at Kolkata, where the team faltered badly after getting a good start in their pursuit of 272 put on by their opponents. The opening paring of skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 and Kieswetter added 129 before a dramatic collapse saw
the Poms lose all their wickets for 47 runs.
While the one-off T20 will be staged at the same venue, the team will be hoping to get the elusive win and leave the sub-continent with some pride intact.
It is highly likely that Buttler will be a part of the starting XI, however, the 21-year-old had a few words of praise for his county- mate Kieswetter, who after some below par performances managed to regain his form with a quick-fire half century in the
final game.
"He (Kieswetter) played brilliantly the other night at the top of the order, and I'm sure there's more of that to come," added the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843 youngster.
