Wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal chooses to take legal action against bookie Mazhar Majeed
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed for taking his name among the four players involved in spot-fixing.
Kamran, along with his brother Umar Akmal, was named by the infamous bookie/player’s agent Mazhar Majeed in an alleged video that surfaced last week. The new video created ripples in Pakistan Cricket as the bookie named four more
players linked with fixing the game. The players named by Majeed are Kamran Akmal, Umar Akmal, Imran Farhat and Wahab Riaz.
Earlier, Kamran’s younger brother Umar Akmal had also vowed to take legal action against Majeed but so far he has not taken any solid step in this direction. Imran Farhat was also quick to challenge Majeed’s claims and revealed
that he was looking into legal options against the accuser.
Kamran has been struggling with his form since the English tour this summer, where he was sloppy with the gloves and bat as well. The major reason for his exclusion from the squad is because of his declining touch with the gloves.
In Pakistan’s recent outings, they have suffered greatly due to Akmal’s poor show behind the stumps. However, the team management was not hasty in disposing the long-time keeper for Pakistan. He was given enough chances to improve
his game before the management decided to scrap his name from the permanent eleven.
Initially, Kamran was dropped for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 on the pretext of an appendicitis operation. However, the player, after recovering from his illness, was still ignored by the selection committee for the upcoming
tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754.
His omission shows that the management is eyeing the prospects of a new wicketkeeper. Pakistan did try this once by introducing Zulqarnain Haider for the UAE series but that didn’t end well, owing to the melodramatic actions taken
by Haider: he deserted his side midway the series because of allegedly getting life threats from unidentified bookies.
Pakistan has already been bogged down in the spot-fixing scandal since summer this year, when three main players of Pakistan were accused of being involved in spot-fixing in a startling exposé by British tabloid
News of the World; these three players included Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif. The trio has since been suspended from all formats of cricket and are waiting for an ICC hearing that will begin next month.
