Wide Receiver Andre Johnson returns to boost Houston Texans’ hopes for win over Baltimore Ravens –NFL
One of the best things happening to the Houston Texans in their preparations for one of the most challenging games against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, January 15, 2012, is the news of their wide receiver, Andre Johnson’s feeling healthy and fit, a couple
of days before going into the game.
No one could have confirmed the news better than the player himself, who while claiming that he was ready to go in terms of his health, said earlier on Wednesday, that he will be showing the spectators what sort of a player he was.
One of the key players who missed most of the Texans' 2011 regular NFL season is Andre Johnson, as he suffered a hamstring injury before the start of the year and sat out six games straight.
He returned to the side during the regular season, almost halfway through, but suffered the same injury again and went out for three consecutive games to end the season.
Nine games missed by their leading wide receiver did not bode well into the Texans' hopes for regular season wins, however they still managed off well to overcome all the injury problems, and successfully made it to the playoffs.
It is their first playoff berth in the franchise's history, which came after they surprisingly topped the American Football Conference (AFC) South division, which was also their first.
Having missed most of the regular season, Johnson returned to the Texans in their wild-card game against the Cincinnati Bengals, this past Sunday, and won the game with a final score of 31-10 in their favour.
Johnson, according to his latest statement, feels fully fit and ready to take on the Baltimore Ravens in their first playoff game.
The news comes as a good development for the Texans who are already without their star quarterbacks, Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart, both ruled out of the season due to their respective injuries.
Texans are now relying on their fifth draft pick rookie, Taylor Jonathan (T.J.) Yates, who has been promoted to take the number on quarterback position with veterans, Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia, to cover him up.
Yates has performed well in his first couple of games but went down in his last three games of the regular season, games in which Andre Johnson was out of the side due to his hamstring injury.
With the return of Johnson at the wide receiving position, Yates is expected to get a boost in his plays.
He earlier expressed the need for the presence of veteran Andre Johnson at his position, saying it can help him in his plays.
Yates, who himself got bruised shoulder in the Texans' wild-card game, is back to being healthy and fit.
The Ravens' game is one of the biggest challenges awaiting the Texans and a win over them will certainly come as one of the most surprising moments of the postseason.
