Wide angle digital camera?

i'm looking for the impossible camera: i want both a wide angle and lots of zoom (8x at least) and found the canon SD 870 IS which has wide abgle but not enough zoom and SX 100 IS which has 10x zoom but no wide angle. I like canon, had a previous camera and would like to stay with them but why can't i find both features in one camera?

I found a Panasonic ( Lumix DMC-TZ4K) which has both features (10x wide angle zoom) but reviews are mixed and don't know if the image quality would be as good as on a cannon.

any suggestions? thanks in advance.

  1. well sounds to me like your looking for the ultimate bang for your buck.

and what you want is a point and shoot camera?

if thats correct then you should go with the camera the top contributor gave you or if your looking to get into photography then you should get a dslr because nikon and canon offer many wide angle zoom lenses wich would go fine on a cheap dslr maybe around 400 for the original rebel dslr and a good wide angle zoom lens wich would be alot more than the body since you want zoom and wide angle.

I all around suggest a dslr so you have many other options to choose from.

  2. i think this is a good camera because it has a decent wide angle and very good zoom.

the wide end would be good enough for decent group shots and panoramic shots. and the telephoto is really good at 396mm equivalent

    hope this helps

  3. Based on the cameras you mentioned, I will stick with the assumption you only want to stay with a point and shoot camera and not a dSLR, which would provide you more options.

While Canon makes excellent products, they do not currently offer wide angles on their zoom cameras.

The Olympus SP-570UZ offers a 27mm wide angle with a 20X zoom, and has had good reviews and feedback from users.  Also, the replacement for the Panasonic you looked at the TZ5 has gotten good reviews from users.  See links below to reviews of these cameras.
