I am an advanced beginner and I am using a head, narrow racket. Should I be using a wide racket? Whats the difference?

  1. Not exactly sure what you mean by narrow.  Do you mean that it has a midsize or midplus head (so the hitting surface is smaller than other racquets' hitting surfaces)?  Or that the actual beam of the racquet is thin?

Either way though, in my opinion, smaller is usually better with tennis equipment.  If it has a smaller head than some others out there, it just means that you are going to be forced to learn to create your own power and be consistent.

If it's the fact that the beam is thinner than some other racquets, it just means it's probably a more control-oriented racquet.  Again, this means you'll learn to create your own power and learn to place the ball well.

My biggest question would be: Does the racquet feel too heavy?  If it doesn't, then you are fine with whatever you are using.  If it feels too heavy, though (like, you can't swing it well because it's so heavy) then you would need to look into something a little lighter.

But really, at your level, it doesn't matter. Just go out there and have fun, and hopefully you'll improve while you're at it.
