Wide receiver Dwayne Bowe absent from Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp – NFL News
As previously thought, Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Dwayne Bowe remained absent from training camp on Friday, July 27, 2012.
Bowe has previously refused to sign the tender offered by Chiefs, as they have put up a non exclusive franchise tag on Bowe in March this year.
If he plays for Chiefs this season, he will receive $9.5 million for the whole season under the franchise tag.
After the end of practice session, head coach Romeo Crennel talked with media about Bowe’s absence. He did not give much details about the current position of Chiefs and Bowe. He said:
"The only thing I can tell you is he's not here. I'm only working with the guys who are here, so I know nothing about the situation. I have not spoken with him or anything like that."
Bowe was drafted by Chiefs in the first round (23rd overall pick) in the 2007 draft. He had the highest number of receiving yards and receptions in the last three seasons for Chiefs.
He got a Pro Bowl selection in 2010 for his exceptional performance as he broke the franchise record of most touchdowns in a single season.
The coming season will be Bowe’s sixth in the league. Last season, Bowe got 81 receptions and covered 1,159 receiving yards and scored five touchdowns.
Chiefs are looking forward to having Bowe back anytime during the camp. Yet under his absence, wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin will be hoping to have a breakout season this year.
Baldwin is a first-round draft pick of the 2011 draft. He missed a few games at the start of the last season because of injury which he got during a fight with his teammate Thomas Jones.
Talking about Baldwin’s chances this year, Crennel said:
"Last year he had an injury and that slowed him down. But he kind of feels like he might be the guy and he sees the opportunity, and he worked hard this offseason. His weight is down. He's in great shape. He's got a good attitude. I anticipate
he will have a good year going forward."
The situation is getting desperate for Chiefs fans who thought that Bowe was very loyal to their team and would finally return come the start of the minicamp.
