Wide receiver Hines Ward refuses to call it quits after cut by Pittsburgh Steelers-NFL News
Hines Ward, the veteran wide receiver, who is confirmed to be released by the Pittsburgh Steelers in a couple of weeks, has hinted at exploring an opportunity of joining another team on the National Football League (NFL).
It is unlikely for the player to call it quits from the professional league as he feels to be able to play football for a few more years.
During the week leading to the confirmation of his waiver by the management, Ward had categorically refused announcing retirement at this juncture of his career, and has reiterated the stance again this time.
He said:
"I do feel that I still have more football left in me and I am looking forward to playing in the NFL, again, this upcoming season."
Apparently, the player is unhappy over the waiver, which, according to his remarks, had come rather too soon as he had planned to stay at Steelers for more seasons and finish his career at Pittsburgh.
The player’s statement, released by the team, has pointed out at the displeasure. It read:
"This isn't how I wanted this chapter of my career to end. I did everything in my power to remain a Steeler and finish what I started here 14 years ago."
Now with the decision of his exit from Steelers to be final, free agency market eagerly awaits Ward, after the deadline of March 13, 2012, and he might not find the prevalent environment as conducive to his hopes of finding another suitor.
The later part of the receiver’s career shows that his form has been badly affected. He averages 8.3 yards per catch, well behind other Steelers’ receivers such as Emmanuel Sanders, Antonio Brown and Mike Wallace.
All the players have the average more than 13 yards per catch, and enjoy better standings in the team and the NFL. Any team interested in hiring Ward will certainly have a look on the performance.
Another factor, which goes against the player, is his age. He is about to touch 36 and he might be feeling the age some time sooner, which will affect his ability of playing for many more seasons. If he does not, his potential buyers will certainly be aware
of the fact.
Some football commentators believe the player is unlikely to win a place in the 2012 NFL season. He might have to compromise on the financial terms on the possibility of being accepted by any team.
According to some, the player is more likely to be given the role as a backup as his current form does not justify the number 1 position for him.
Irrespective to the future prospects, it is for sure that Hines Ward will avoid the retirement plans in the near future and take his chances on finding a team on the league.
