Wide receiver Jabar Gaffney working out with Miami Dolphins – NFL News
With the alarms bells ringing due to the disturbing situation in the wide receiving corps, Miami Dolphins are aiming to acquire a good number of quality wide receivers being left out by other teams.
Dolphins have been looking into many options during the last few days and have tried out a few. The recent player to try out his luck with Dolphins is wide receiver Jabar Gaffney
According to different reports, Dolphins are ready to sign the 31-year-old, if he manages to do the workout properly and clear the medical.
Gaffney was released last week by New England Patriots after a surprise move. The player wanted Patriots to reconsider their decision and hoped that he would be able to return.
Dolphins are one of the weakest teams in the league as far as wide receiving corps are concerned.
Although they have skilled Davone Bess as a starter, they do not have a quality partner to support him, especially after departure of Chad Johnson.
If signed, Gaffney will certainly be the starter in the Dolphins camp. Previously, it was reported that Dolphins were looking to give Gaffney a chance to work out, but they were waiting for him to fully recover from his leg injury.
Gaffney is not the only Patriots’ cut who has been tried by the Dolphins this week. Another wide receiver Donte' Stallworth had a workout with Dolphins on Saturday. Stallworth looks ready to be signed as he has also gone through fitness checks.
If signed, both Gaffney and Stallworth are likely to get a one-year contract each. Dolphins have taken the task of upgrading the receiving corps very seriously.
They have added Washington Redskins’ cut Anthony Armstrong during the weekend. Armstrong is second tier wide receiver and is likely to be a backup.
Gaffney is a vastly experienced player having played ten seasons in the league. He has been a part of five different teams that include Houston Texans, Philadelphia Eagles, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins.
Texans drafted Gaffney in the second round (33rd overall pick) of the 2002 draft. While playing for Redskins last season, Gaffney managed to receive 68 passes, and covered 947 yards while scoring five touchdowns.
