Wide receiver Terrell Owens expresses his desire to play for New York Jets – NFL News
New York Jets are in dire need to get better output from his wide receiving corps, so is the case for wide receiver Terrell Owens who is desperate to return to the National Football League (NFL).
Owens conveyed a message to Jets via Twitter during their Week 5 game that he is available for them. He tweeted when Jets were playing final quarter of the game in their 23-17 loss against Houston Texans. Owens said:
"Hey JETS!!! I'm available! I'm ready, willing & able! Call my agent @jordanwoy & let's make it happen,"
Jets’ injury-plagued wide receiving corps looked very poor on Sunday. Wide receiver Clyde Gates injured his shoulder and was unable to return.
The severity of Gates’ injury is unknown. Jets are already without their star wide receiver Santonio Holmes for the rest of the season while Stephen Hill is out with a hamstring injury.
Last week, Jets added wide receiver Jason Hill on the roster in place of Holmes. Their only other option is to play Jeremy Kerley, who was their fourth-tier wide receiver at the start of the season.
Jets have previously neglected the option of acquiring services of a veteran as they did not show interest in re-signing Plaxico Burress.
Head coach Rex Ryan wants to have a young and fast receiver who is usable in longer run.
Owens, 38, is a six-time Pro Bowler and has covered the second-highest number of receiving yards in the history of the league.
The veteran has played for teams like San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. Although he previously had issues with his temperament, he looked quite disciplined last season playing for Buffalo Bills.
This could be a very good option for Jets and their quarterback Mark Sanchez. Owens might have a good influence on the young group of wide receivers that Jets have in the team right now.
Owens’ tweet got more than 10,000 replies on Twitter. However, it will be the reply of Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum that will count the most.
