Wide receiver Terrell Owens joins Seattle Seahawks – NFL News
Wide receiver Terrell Owens returns to the National Football League (NFL) after a gap of one year as he agreed to deal terms with the Seattle Seahawks and signed a one-year contract.
The deal is reported to be worth around $ 1 million of which $ 640,000 will count against salary cap.
Seahawks announced the news on Monday, August 06, 2012. Owens soon expressed his gratitude through Twitter. It said:
"God is good. Thankful. Grateful. To ALL my new teammates & the "12th Man"... Let's Do This!! "
After playing the 2010 season for the Cincinnati Bengals, Owens got injured in April 2011, having a torn anterior cruciate ligament. He was released by Bengals the next month.
Owens left the NFL in the 2011 offseason to play for Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League.
Owens was released by Wranglers in May this year. He also lost the ownership stake that he had in Wranglers.
It has been a long road back to the NFL for Owens. He has been working very hard in order to keep himself fit enough to play in the league. While talking to Yahoo Sports Blog last month, Owens said:
"I know how the business works, I'm just hoping that someone can give me a chance. I'm just going to continue to work hard, training camp is going to come up here pretty soon, there are going to be injuries, and things of that nature. I know that there are
some teams that need a veteran receiver — whether it's a No. 1, 2 or 3 — I feel like I can fill all those voids."
Seahawks were impressed by his fitness during training camp on Monday and felt that he was fit enough to play in the league.
Owens, 38, has vast experience, but does not have many years left in him. He is added to Seahawks after they cut Antonio Bryant last week.
The addition of Owens means a tough competition for recently signed Braylon Edwards. He is coming after having an injury-plagued season with San Francisco 49ers.
Seahawks’ receiving corps appears to be very strong especially after the addition of a veteran like Owens.
