Wide receiver Terrell Owens to start for Seattle Seahawks in Saturday’s preseason – NFL News
Wide receiver Terrell Owens (T.O.) will play his first game for Seattle Seahawks in a preseason game against Denver Broncos on Saturday, August 18, 2012.
This was announced by Head Coach Pete Carroll on Tuesday. Carroll refused to tell how many plays Owen will have in the game. He said:
"I'm not going to tell you how many plays it will be. We'll see how it goes, but he's going to play pretty early in the game."
Owens’ position is still uncertain, but he has been reported to have gained good ground during the practice sessions in training camp.
On the other hand, Owens is competing with Braylon Edwards who has also impressed many with his output in the camp.
Coach Carroll looks to be satisfied with the way things have gone with Owens. Carroll said:
"He's ready to go. He had two good weeks of work, and he came in in great shape so he's ready to go."
Owens has been getting a lot of media attention ever since he has returned to the NFL by joining Seahawks this offseason. He previously reiterated the fact that he would play for the team and start from the scratch. He said:
"It's all about for me now being part of something rather than being the center of something. I understand a lot of the media is here because of me and again, I have changed in a lot of ways. it's almost like I have to rebuild my career.”
Owens is signed by Seahawks on a one-year deal reported to worth around $1 million. He went to play for Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League last season after being released by Cincinnati Bengals in 2011.
Prior to playing in the Indoor League, Owens played 15 seasons in the NFL. He was drafted by San Francisco 49ers in the third round of the 1996 draft. After playing eight seasons with 49ers, he was traded to Philadelphia Eagles in 2004.
Owens then moved on to play for Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. At 38, Owens will have his career on the line this season.
Getting appreciation from the coach is one thing, but the difficult part is to get a starting spot which currently looks like a distant possibility for Owens.
